Community Workshops and Engagement
Before Mangled Yarn goes into the rehearsal room, they will be working with the Bedford community and beyond. We will be gathering local stories and memories about Christmas and the winter season from a wide and diverse range of Bedford's residents. We have also created a programme of exciting workshops and activity packs.
We are delighted to offer several live workshops. Each workshop will have one dedicated member of the team and every step will be taken to ensure it is completely COVID-19 secure.
WINTER MEMORIES
An interactive and joyful worksop with a dedicated member of the Mangled Yarn Team. They will lead you through a session exploring the groups memories of winter and Christmas, using bells, drums and other instruments to bring those memories to life.
PLAYING WITH PANTOMIME
An opportunity for students to explore the art of pantomimes and become part of the action. Using classic scenes and characters to learn more about classic family theatre whilst having a rip roaring time!
We have a selection of predesigned workshops on our website suitable for secondary students: here.
We can also offer bespoke digital or live workshops based upon your needs. We can provide tailor made sessions suited to any age or ability.
In the past we have worked with secondary drama departments to provide “actor training” taster sessions and drama school audition workshops, English departments to find exciting ways to tackle set texts and exam requirements, as well as more general workshops filled with drama games and performance activities. The possibilities are endless!
The Mangled Yarn team have a wealth of experience at your disposal and we would be thrilled to discuss creating bespoke workshops tailored to your needs. We are happy to consider any topic, set text or theme for any age or ability. Length and location of workshops are also flexible.
If your school is unable to hold live events or workshops we are able to offer digital workshops. Using Zoom or Microsoft Teams will be able to deliver any of our workshops online. This style of workshop will be supported by a resource pack available to download.
We can also offer a digital activity pack, to be used whenever you need it without the Mangled Yarn Team being with you, meaning your school can still be part this wonderful project in whatever circumstance.
It’s a wonderful life spans three distinct eras: the 20s, 30s and 40s. Mangled Yarn will stitch together a fantastic selection of classic songs, poetry and readings from each of these eras, with a special focus on Christmas and the winter season. Using live instruments and performers to bring music and magic directly to your living room.
After the concert we will invite the audience to sit down with a cuppa and share their memories of Christmas and the winter season. These can be heartwarming stories of joy and laughter, stories of struggle and heartache or anything sparked by this time of year. Consider it an informal setting to share and listen about the way the community and its people have changed.
Some of these stories may provide the inspiration for our upcoming Christmas production at The Place Theatre, Bedford.
